But really, the dumb tribal statements being made ‘thought leaders’ just make our industry look like it can’t do engineering.

But if you don’t require those properties don’t use that architectural style, use one more appropriate to your context.

To get that we need to partition sensibly, looking for boundaries that align to processes or activities in the domain we are modelling.

If I don’t need independent deployability (and that applies inside my service boundary too) then applying the constraints may only create cost without value. I’d say there are other properties, such as the ability to reason about software at a certain scale too etc.

It’s just the normal set of architectural trade-offs that folks make every day. Independent deployability is a property of microservices I gain from explicit boundaries/autonomous constraints. That gives support for multiple teams working in parallel with low release conflict

Sadly a lot of the ‘thought leader’ comments on microservices vs. monoliths seem pretty dumb. Both microservices and monoliths are architectural styles. You obey some constraints and in return you obtain some properties. The properties let you reason about the best fit for you

I feel like, slowly, C# is becoming the language for gaming. C++ is still a staple, but with Unity and company, I’m starting to see more and more written in C#.

Monoliths can be distributed systems with separately scalable services. Microservices are about independent release cycles.
