This is Marwa from Afghanistan. In 2018, one of her siblings stumbled upon a rocket-propelled grenade. It exploded, hurting all of them. Marwa lost her limb. We fitted her with a new one. This still happens today. It needs to stop 🚫

We are often asked why we don't take sides in conflicts. Here's why 👇 ➡️ By not taking sides, we can be on both sides of a frontline. ➡️ We can bring in aid & reach hospitals. ➡️ We can evacuate the wounded. ➡️ We can enter prisons & help in the release of prisoners.

We welcome news of a ceasefire after five days of hostilities. The explosions and sirens have fallen silent. What remains is the loss and suffering of a third heavy cycle of violence in two years. Our priority is to assess urgent humanitarian needs and support affected people.

For families and communities in #Gaza, the current hostilities come on top of 16 years of restrictions on movement of goods and people. The ongoing closure of border crossings only makes this worse. Urgent steps are needed to prevent a deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Card with blue background and white and yellow text reads: “Civilians in Gaza have been killed and wounded due to the hostilities. People are now living with dwindling fuel and basic supplies because of the ongoing closure of border crossings. The closure may have life or death consequences, especially for those who must leave to access critical medical care unavailable in Gaza. This includes for chronic conditions like those with cancer.
With fuel importation blocked, Gaza’s power plant, which provides electricity, will decrease in production. We know this will impact essential services such as water treatment and health facilities. People struggle to continue with critical parts of daily life in darkness.
Urgent steps are needed to prevent a further deterioration in the humanitarian situation."
- William Schomburg, ICRC Head of Sub-Delegation for Gaza
