      Am sure there’s more to it. IBM’s investment into Watson, AI & other areas is second to none. And @IBM has been a treasure trove of patents and Nobel laureates!

      Services companies don't have as many patents as product companies do. And over a period of time, IBM has transformed itself into more of a services company than a product company.

      Hmmm....not really. IBM has a brilliant research and development arm (and a strong product portfolio) that works on cutting edge defining technologies. 8000+ patents in 2016 - 1st company to breach the 8K mark! Guess the list is very selective.
