Do people really try to deep fry whole turkeys? (Also, I never imagined that this could be a thing that could happen in a kitchen.)

Yes. Although it tends to give a turkey that is overcooked on the outside and undercooked in the middle; even if you manage to not start a fire.

Indoors? Even the ones on patios have nice big open lawns next to them. Do it there. Plus, it's relatively safe if you follow the instructions and aren't drunk. Wish I had better video of my desert camping grease fire "experiments".
