My wife was offered a faculty role at a local university back in ‘07. Then... They ghosted her. Never called/emailed with next steps & never responded to any of her attempts to contact them.

What about after you interview, and they start discussing salary and terms? Should they notify you when they change their mind and decide you are not the one? I'm still waiting, some 30 years later, to get that notification from University of Pennsylvania Anthropology Dept.

This should be said of all jobs. When I was still unemployed after graduation I kept calling HR departments after hearing nothing post phone screens to be told the position had been filled “awhile” ago....
but I am sure within academia this creates unique issues for people. -
I've never held a proper job outside of academia, so I just know what's considered normal. But that sucks :-/
