This base camp was also notable for small creatures, such as rather aggressive swarming & (thankfully) relatively docile 🦂 like this little cutie that I discovered underneath my tent (while I was rolling it up when we broke camp). Glad it retreated - so did I!

Check it out! You can see the 1999 rupture in google earth base imagery - here’s our bivouac location (it’s inside the base / off limits / requires approval & badges for access) :

A cave located along the west coast of Aceh province in Sumatra contains a 25-centimetre-thick layer of sand — deposits from the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Below that, scientists found layers of deposits from tsunamis that occurred more than 7,000 years ago.

With high wind conditions expected in SoCal, remember to stay far away from power lines. Never touch a downed power line, or anything that's in contact with it. If you see a downed wire, call 911 right away. ⚠️🚨📞

The wind is roaring in our part of Los Angeles; some strong gusts coming through tonight - winds started last night and continued unusually strong all day in Pasadena - makes it hard to rest or sleep / we’re expecting a freeze tonight, too - crazy!

The gusty north winds will transition to a Santa Ana wind event impacting mainly Los Angeles and Ventura Counties through Wednesday. Expect gusts to 55 mph over the mountains and 45 mph over the valleys. Downed tree limbs and power lines are possible!

Great gif example of what you could do to protect yourself before the shaking starts with some Earthquake Esrly Warning (and why it's important). Thanks ! What else could you do, Twitter?

Why not join in? Here goes day 1 of - throwing it back to undergrad days in Wyoming on ROX stretch. One of my nicknames was ‘Ranger,’ I think partly because I wore a khaki shirt & had dark green leather work boots (called kangaroo boots). Those were good times!
