so you know how our brains are pattern-matching/making machines? and do it even if there's really not that much evidence underlying? the chew toys that my brain's been gnawing on, making patterns with today: politics, parasocial relationships, digital connectedness, atomization

(it feels like) for a while now (and through history? ... hush, brain), people have been looking for parasocial relationships from their politicians and leaders and this intensified and was magnified in/by US politics 2016-present
Prikaži ovu nit -
lots of people seem to resonate with the complaint that we're more digitally connected and socially isolated than ever the debate is still raging (and may have been since time immemorial) but it's clear that people are thinking of this
Prikaži ovu nit -
it feels like, increasingly, jobs like streamers and influencers are becoming more and more important culturally and for providing the parasocial relationships that people could be using to substitute for feeling isolated
Prikaži ovu nit -
having politicians fill that role instead of actors/commentators/streamers/influencers, and being judged by quality/quantity of parasocial relationships more than constituent outcome (or conflating the two measures
)
might result in worse outcomes? by both measuresPrikaži ovu nit -
so that's my brain having the zoomies today pls do not take as anything more than the pleasure of crackpot pattern-matching for fun
