Might be a dumb q, but can those elite memory contest participants automatically be chess grandmasters or poker pros as well bc they can recall huge sets of data?
The sample size of data required to be proficient at chess by solely relying on memory is exponentially larger than that of most memory contests.

To many variations and unknowns. If it was possible you'd hear about more savants getting rich playing these games. Now games with a memory like blackjack, hearts, spades, etc. Definately.

I think it would be easier to become the world champion in Go and Chess than to memorize all games played in say... the Najdorf.
