It was well known weeks ago, but I don't think it was his year. It's not about just goals, this is not award for the best striker - he won nothing in ECL and Argentina. But still more deserved than Modric last year.

It is about being the best which he undoubtedly is. Simple as that. Just some people want to overcomplicate it with collective achievements. This is an individual award.
