Interesting. I always took the following as the foundation of stoicism, and it doesn’t strike me as NPC behavior. Paraphrasing from meditations: 1. Objective judgement 2. Unselfish action 3. Willing acceptance of external events

I think a lot of people misinterpret classical stoicism. I’d argue it’s more about non-reactivity: recognizing that your emotions are independent from your actions and understanding that the source of your emotions can help guide action. More freedom, more power, less NPC.
The confusion arises when people conflate non-reactivity with absolute indifference. Acquiescing to your current state goes against the core tenet of Stoicism, i.e. the only worthwhile pursuit is excellence of your own character. It doesn't preach passiveness, rather, scrutiny.
