I, for one, appreciate nothing more than 7.5hrs of setup followed by 5mins of payoff. Good stuff True Detective season 3.

Far from a film noir ending. But still, being different is underrated
Nic seems to have a problem with concluding his stories. Seems like he lays too expansive a groundwork which he then fails to tie up. Same thing happened with the previous season. You're inevitably left feeling unsatisfied because so many subplots turn out to be red herrings.

Indeed. Nothing wrong with leaving some mystery behind, but if you overdo it you risk leaving your audience too confused to appreciate your work.
