Refusing to charge most cases brought by police is a valid reason. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than face a burglary or assault prosecution from Chesa.

And while it is true that property crime in San Francisco has gone up through the pandemic (and quite significantly) it’s worth asking why that might be - San Francisco has shut down more than most other cities during the pandemic too.

It’s also had more high-earning individuals leave the city during the period than most other places. That might be why violent crimes are massively *down* in the city. It seems to me most likely than *none* of these things are the direct result of a new DA.pic.twitter.com/50dizMUfeg

“So far this year, the # of fatal gun violence victims rose 47% compared to 2020, according to latest data from SFPD. Non-fatal gun violence doubled and burglaries are at the highest levels in recent history. Citywide, car break-ins increased 27% but spiked 150% in parts of SF.”
