    The decision to end the US war in Afghanistan was correct but we owe it to those who gave their lives, including our NATO & coalition partners who went to war alongside us, to assess where failures occurred.

    In 2019, I expressed my concerns to Sec. Pompeo about our plans to exit Afghanistan and negotiations with the Taliban, and he dismissed them. My concerns proved accurate. Today at our hearing, I asked how he would’ve handled the deal differently.

    "We urge prompt and significant U.S. action." Chair led letter signed by 24 other members to calling for the U.S. to take urgent steps with international partners to address Lebanon’s worsening crisis and prevent further instability.

    CM : The unsung heroes of any Embassy are the Consular Officers.  Thank you for your service and steadfast efforts to facilitate this historic evacuation.

    Our Consular Officers were essential in facilitating the relocation of 124,000+ people from Afghanistan. Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Rena Bitter welcomed colleagues back to DC and thanked them for their tireless support for this mission.
