#COSEN: Hearing intel in Colorado that national Ds spending big money — $1M in a week — to boost far-right election conspiracist Ron Hanks in Senate GOP primary against construction CEO Joe O’Dea. Race to face Sen. Michael Bennet.
One R says it’s the Todd Akin playbook all over.
Conversation
Colorado a sleeper Senate race in this environment, but Hanks is about as surefire a loser as it comes (far right, no money to spend). Won convention filled with activists.
Primary is later this month. Big question is whether outside R groups would come in and help O’Dea.

The "Todd Akin" playbook was illegal, btw, because Claire McCaskill went to some lengths to convince Akin to run more primary ads. That's illegal coordination between committees. But with that said, 2022 ain't gonna be 2012.

Bennet should win this race comfortably no matter who the opponent is. If they feel like they have to go to this extent just to win in Colorado of all places, then they are in much worse shape than we realized.

I believe this! The benefit to Ds stretch beyond the US Sen race to all the down ticket races. All statewide races and statehouse majorities are in play and the chilling effect of a Hanks win is too tempting for Ds not to use this deceptive tactic.

It's really a bad idea to do this and it seems to be happening more frequently.

A system that allows a strategy like this to even be thinkable -let alone viable - is completely broken.
