Favorability and job approval are not the same thing though. Yes they are probably similar in today's polarized climate but it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Possibility: Trump is awful, and the only way they can win is by creating a monster out of his opponent. And they will, no matter who the opponent it. Mark Zuckerberg and CNN will help by giving him unlimited unchecked airtime.

It's unclear whether, as a rule, who will vote for him is completely untethered to job approval or whether he was just able to overcome what appears to be a lower job approval in 2016 because of the dem nominee that year. Not sure the comparison to 2016 job approval is apt.
