I have loved books every since I was a child. So I am incredibly honored to be elected to the NBCC Board to serve with such a fantastic, brilliant group of book critics and be part of honoring amazing books and writers with recognition and awards.

There is so much to say about the Caster Semanya case: biological essentialism, how Blackness is incompatible with binary notions of gender, how white women engage victimhood as a punitive, anti-black apparatus, and how hegemonic womanhood is operationalised and maintained

Please watch this and realize that the cops are fully conscious IN THE MOMENT of how they treat Black kids vs white ones. Also, I am so glad that the white kids REFUSED to let their friend be brutalized.

I think this will rank in his parenting highlights at about the same level as when I saw him chasing ravens and told him if he yelled “Nevermore!” the ravens would let him catch them. And he spent all afternoon screaming “Nevermore!” while chasing ravens. 😂😂😂

This Saturday is independent bookstore day! Every day is a good day to visit an indie bookstore but it will be extra great to do so this weekend. Some of my favorites are Source Booksellers in Detroit and Eso Won in LA, both black-owned.
