I recall a co-ed sport in high school where we would intentionally throw volleyballs at eachother. The expectation was to dodge. In Payton McNabb's world her unusual incident stems not from her lack of readiness but on the supposed unfairness that a TG woman was there.

Nope nope nope. Volleyball is very typically a coed sport with no physical contact and that spike was not unusually hard. Getting hit in the face with the ball will do this no matter who hits it. Contact, or combat sports there can be a debate, discussion, limits perhaps.
