Despite being worried about suitcase space I finally bought this today

Go to Don Quixote, Tokyo Hands etc and buy some manual vacuum bags, these don't need a hoover to work (approx 700yen each). Putting your clothes, any plushies you've bought/won in these can help save a lot of space. Usually in the travel or home section.
