Even the 3DS had this problem, but at least it managed to overcome it in the end. But there were plenty who thought it was still just a DS but with 3D.
and the main console looked exactly like the Wii, AND the advertising literally only showed the gamepad? I'm sure way more than a lot of people thought that the Wii U was just the gamepad addition to the Wii.
