Doesn't happen often, but I disagree with you on this one. Esports systems tell us that if we train hard and become the best we can make it to the top. Nobody ever said "You can just jam Garen top for fun and maybe you'll make it to the LCS".

I don't see how this is disagreeing with me; you just described a path like the one I'm saying is necessary in any esports system. Your path just emphasizes different things. And it's not like it's absurd for Mage to win a Masters Qualifier--it's already won a few.

There's a difference between an unknown player who works very hard and succeeds because of it and a casual player who isn't very invested in the game but still succeeds because the new system allows you to highroll. It felt like Milkfat meant the latter.

Seems like an unfair comparison: I don't follow league, but I have to assume you don't just win one tournament and get an invite to the LCS. The Master's Qualifier is the first step of at least 3 towards reaching the highest level in this HS system.

I played a lot of mtg back in the day, so I'll use a comparison I know better: Milkfat basically said anyone can win a PTQ, even if they're casual players. That doesn't make you a pro, just like how winning a Masters Qualifier doesn't make you a pro. It's step 1.

I mean ultimately the problem is that they killed any form of reward for consistency. Spiking a single event is the antithesis of consistency. Just think back over all the tour stops last year. Some were won by the absolute best players and some were won by just good players.

Yeah, I feel like people are coming in here like I said I love Specialist and the Grandmasters system... All I did was correct the mis-statement that it is impossible to win a Qualifier as a casual and then explain why they are selling that as a dream, and why they should.

I don't think they should. It diminishes the value of "pro" play. It should be hard and not casual. I think their system confuses accessibility, with "winnability". Accessibility would mean that if you're the best player you will have a chance to prove it (they fail on this).

I don't think a single player in GM (even muzzy, saiyan, or hunterace) would have more than like a 15% chance (probably much lower) of qualifying into GM for next year if they weren't already in.

Saiyan didn’t win an HCT tour stop last year until the 4th one of season 3
