Serious question I'm asking myself right now: If my Hearthstone prizes are a taxable income as if they were an autonomous worker's revenue, does it mean that my card packs are tax deductible? What about my gaming PC? The chair I sit on while I play? What. A. Time. To. Be. Alive.

Card packs, hardware you needed to buy, plane tickets also.

Does my plane ticket to Atlanta counts event if I made 0 points going there?

Are they though? It's very fuzzy. I'm not a professional gamer as in it's not my main professional activity. I do it for entertainment, but then sometimes I win money doing it. I just started to think of them as professional expenses once I realized the income was taxable.

You can’t deduct cost of travel to and from work in Canada. I would assume the plane ticket falls under that?

Cannot. From here https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/t4044/employment-expenses-2016.html#P117_2124 …

Document says this is a guide for employees though, not autonomous workers. I'm pretty sure if I were a lawyer travelling for work it would be tax deductible. What I'm unsure is if going to a Hearthstone tournament falls within that category.

The t2125 has a section for travel expenses and turbo tax says that you can write off travel expenses going to a business related convention. We have a family friend that’s a lawyer so I can see if he knows the answer for this since it’s also relevant for me.

In the us I cannot deduct my travel to and from work each day, but if work makes me go on a trip I can deduct miles / tickets / and travel expenses not related to my daily commute. Idk Canada tax law, but I’d be surprised if you cannot deduct travel to a tournament.
