I don't remember exactly where I heard of it but was from local San Diego player. 60 card casual was already hard to find and then I heard about this format where I could play all the things I owned one of. I then realized everyone else had better stuff than me so I built Merieke

I forget the exact timeline, but it was a way to use odd draft chaff and build more decks with my son. My first deck was an AWFUL W/R angels and dragons themed deck that was about as inefficient as it could be. I still like turning stuff sideways...

I showed up early for FNM Standard and one of the regulars asked if I played EDH. I said no and he invited me to play 1v1 anyways and handed me deck. He absolutely destroyed me as I had no idea what most of the cards did. Honestly it was a bad intro to the format.

Literally browsing on YouTube for Magic content and stumbling on
@TolarianCollege video on the 5 Commanders you should play for beginners. My very first deck idea came from that video. It was Merieke Ri Berit. I stole someone's Eldrazi titan and killing the table with it#proud -
