All I know is that Ray Liotta quitting smoking is about to make me start smoking. STOP PLAYING THAT AD ALL DAY LONG, #Chantix

Right, I almost want the guy to pick it back up so I don’t have to hear about it.
-
The
#Chantix ad is as bad as all of the fall’s political ads - MUTE time! -
Whenever I see a prescription drug ad, I can't help but think that if you need to go to your doctor and say you saw an ad for a drug you think might be good to try, you should probably consider getting a new doctor.
-
Yes! I can’t imagine going to my primary care physician and saying “i saw this Rx on TV. Have you considered prescribing it for me?” How whacked would that be? Totally absurd!

https://www.everydayhealth.com/columns/zimney-health-and-medical-news-you-can-use/a-history-of-drug-ads-on-tv/ … How old are you? Drug ads we're essentially banned on TV when I was young.

I’m old enough to remember cigarette adds on TV.
-
I can still remember the jingles, didn't know til I got older they were all like, Broadway tunes. I think they started allowing lawyers to advertise around the same time they OKd Big Pharma. That used to be a no-no, too.

It's a rather naive thought. But okay. Whatever.
-
Naive? They were banned until the 80’s. They’re banned in almost every other country.
-
Sorry, let me explain. (1) Naive to think it would be $ saved. If drug co.s now can't advertise after doing it for decades, the money not spent on it goes to either finding legal ways to promote (re-expanding sales forces) or take additional profit & return it to investors or
-
Fair point.
-
But w/out those ads, you wouldn't have as widespread a problem w/ patients self-diagnosing based on a 30sec commercial, then going to their docs to demand a specific brand-name drug that probably costs many times more than a comparable generic, which I think is the issue here.
-
For that, we have the expanse of the internet. Patients bring more misinformation to me they’ve gleamed from the ‘net than from TV ads.

you mean like Web MD? symptom: headache Probable cause: Cancer Symptom: Itchy Rash Probable cause: Cancer Symptom: broken toe Probable cause: really BAD Cancer

Oh, man, I had a weird pain in my left breast for A WHILE & the best I could determine was that the tumor *might* be benign. :P
