As an American this fascinates me. I can't think of anything quite as anathema than allowing yourself to be governed by unelected, unaccountable career bureaucrats who pull more power to themselves by taking it from you. Self-governance and independence are beautiful, Mr. Fry.

You’ve been absorbing the Brexit propaganda. There’s nothing “unelectable, unaccountable” about EU governance. There is a directly elected EU parliament, an indirectly elected council, and an unelected civil service (the Commission) - pretty much like every functioning democracy.

As an American, you clearly don't understand the system at all. As we both elect our own Parliament, and we elected our own representatives in a European Oark that represented international interests. Twice the democracy, and we voted on both within the last year.

Disregarding electoral systems for a second, both returned results that contradicted the result of the 2016 referendum, but our democracy - complete with unelected House of Lords, I should add - is very selective about how democracy should be adhered to.
