November 30, 1969: the Muppets appear on The Ed Sullivan Show and perform “Mah Na Mah Na”, which had been sung on Sesame Street only 3 days prior
This version now featured the Snowths, and would be the basis for all future Muppet versions of the song

To say that “Mah Na Mah Na” was a popular number for the Muppets would be an understatement

Since folks won’t stop asking about “the porn film” we mentioned 3 days ago.

November 27, 1969: During episode 14 of Sesame Street, 3 Muppets performed a little known song, “Mah Na Mah Na” by Piero Umiliani, originally from a Swedish exploitation film.
This was the first of many times the song would be performed by the Muppets
Happy 50th anniversary

I was at the Fox Theater in Atlanta going to the lobby for a drink once and for some reason I just mumbled out loud to myself “Do Do DoDoDo” and a random guy walked past me, looked back, and said “Mah Na Mah Na!” with a grin.

I think what makes “Mah Na Mah Na” so perfect is the joke is absolutely universal.
There are no barriers with this skit, wherever you come from, whatever language you speak, however old you are, Mahna Mahna always works.
