/n Dear naturopaths (part 3), Many of you are providing questionable dietary recommendations. This is disrupting patient's health & it is time to STOP! Since few (if any) of you seem to have a handle on this, here is a bit of insight you could use:https://twitter.com/healthwatch123/status/981844831692640256 …

/n Naturopaths, a decision to remove a nutrient from someone's diet should be based on (actual) evidence that THAT person, specifically, shouldn't have the nutrient. Stop just randomly telling people to stop eating foods. Have a reason. A SCIENTIFICALLY valid one!

/n Naturopaths, conditions that have nothing to do with diet should NOT be blamed on diet! You can't fix a thyroid issue with zinc. Removing dairy is NOT step 1 for GI issues. Breast fed babies need a WELL fed mom! & bread is not the underlying cause of every case of fatigue!

/n Naturopaths are making people spend lots of time & money hopelessly messing with their diets for conditions that require a DIFFERENT approach. Why do you DISREGARD the patients best interests this way?! Stop making people terrified of food, & STOP wasting their time & money!

/n Naturopaths, it's well PAST time you recognized the LIMITS on your nutritional knowledge, & start re-directed patients seeking dietary advice to the REAL experts: our highly educated, CARING, & scientific #RegisteredDieticians.

/n Registered dieticians are nutritional specialists who rely on SCIENCE to guide their recommendations. RDs don't RANDOMLY inject patients with vitamins like many naturopaths do. Or bizarrely limit their diets, RESTRICTING key nutrients. They don't MAKE-UP supposed allergies.

/n RDs methodically collect information from patients about their nutritional status, & carefully determine their needs naturopaths. RDs guide patients in getting a balanced healthy diet, not some weird FAD one.

/n You know what else RDs do naturopaths? They offer appointments that are JUST as long as yours, so no hiding behind that bit of misdirection either. No DECEIVING the public, pretending RDs don't get the 'whole story', or address the 'root cause', or offer preventive advice!

/n Naturopaths, you have encroached on many branches of health care, but perhaps no group has been so robbed of recognition of their EXPERTISE & knowledge as registered dieticians. Naturopaths may be interested in nutrition. RDs wrote the BOOK on it! The EVIDENCE based one.

/n PS naturopaths - gluten free diets are for people with ACTUAL celiac disease, NOT every single person that has a tummy ache!!!

Not a defense of naturopaths, but as for nutrition science, here’s Gary Taubes: “It's hard to imagine how bad the science really is in that field.”

It's a great headline from taubes and surely helps sell books. No greater example u have little useful to say than attempting to discredit a whole field rather than win an argument with better data
