@HirokoTabuchi Quite unfair, though, since Tohoku communities will largely be rebuilt before 2020.

@wataruen Really? That's news to many parts of Fukushima.

@HirokoTabuchi The lower photo is not Fukushima. There were tsunami in Iwate and Miyagi, if you've forgotten.

@wataruen Yes, that tsunami hit Fukushima too. And in some parts, the cleanup hasn't even begun, let alone reconstruction.

@HirokoTabuchi @tokyorich is it too early to worry about an anti-foreign backlash as olympic costs mount?

@XinJeisan @tokyorich Don't think so. Think we've seen that Japanese worry more abt putting on a good face & would rather forget Fukushima.

@HirokoTabuchi @XinJeisan The identity politics of the next few years will be fascinating. London pulled off a big last minute win.

@tokyorich @HirokoTabuchi if it just exacerbates rural/urban divides, wonder whether reaction might be different, unlike high growth 60s?

@XinJeisan @tokyorich Tokyo will win big -- the question, I guess, is whether it will win big enough & care enough to save the rest of Japan

@HirokoTabuchi @tokyorich that also puts an interesting perspective on the 一人一票 case and outcome, if it shifts even more power to the center

@HirokoTabuchi 7 years interval is intentionally omitted.

@shark777skin Is there a big Fukushima redevelopment project in the next 7 years that I'm not aware of?

@roehlteacher @HirokoTabuchi It shows where the priorities are. Don't have to abolish sport, but care is owed to people in Tohoku.

@roehlteacher I think we'll just have to agree to disagree about this one. Organized sport as spectacle has approximately zero value for me.
