"the film’s layered exposés of Pakistani society are reduced to the latest progressive cause: trans activism. The mistreatment of women in Pakistan, meanwhile, is largely glossed over..part of a wider and worrying cultural trend..causes more palatable to Western progressives"

For @unherd I wrote about the PHENOMENAL new Pakistani film ‘Joyland’ made by @KhoosatFilms. It is so so much more than just a trans love story, & its coverage in western media has been highly reductive of this beautiful piece of art. #Joyland #WomensDay unherd.com/2023/03/joylan

The most difficult subject to report/read about and sure to attract the wrong type of reaction but i retweet nevertheless having personally met a victim of this type of abuse, which sadly is prevalent in this region

Wrote about the Rotherham grooming gangs scandal in the UK and the Pakistani perpetrators behind the grizzly crimes. Researching, interviewing for, and writing this piece has no doubt altered my soul. Big thanks to @unherd for publishing it. unherd.com/2023/02/pakist

Disturbing read. If true (GBNews?) wonder how many victims of sex abuse remain unacknowledged within British Pakistani communities - it took long enough for authorities to act on original grooming cases.

Sexual abuse often goes unchecked in Pakistani communities because offenders believe they will be protected | @HinaTweetsNow unherd.com/2023/02/pakist
🇵🇰From Abida Parveen, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Ghulam Ali to Atif Aslam, so many of us have grown up on Pakistani music. Yet, Pakistani artists have struggled to monetize. wrote about how has the power to fix this.

Had a great time reporting this for ⁦⁩: one year after Spotify launched in Pakistan, what impact has it had on the music industry there? Many thanks to for green lighting my idea & guiding me through the editing process.

Super stoked for this issue of @sadmag! I profiled the amazing artist and graphic designer @omargdraws about his Pakistan+ series of a surrealist, future Pakistan. The issue is available to buy in certain bookstores across Canada, and can also be ordered online through their site twitter.com/sadmag/status/…

We definitely need more lactation consultants in Pakistan. Let's spread the awareness.

Pakistan has 50 million women of childbearing age, and only one globally certified person to help them feed their newborns. Zohra Kurji is a paediatric nurse at @AKUGlobal Hospital in Karachi, and the only certified practising lactation consultant in #Pakistan. twitter.com/ForeignPolicy/…

I'm glad to see more and more mothers in Pakistan will have the resources and support they need to breastfeed, if they so choose, thanks to the work of Zohra Kurji.

There aren’t many resources for Pakistani moms who want to breastfeed. This lactation consultant—the country’s sole practitioner with gold-standard global credentials—wants to change that, @HinaTweetsNow reports. w/@ForeignPolicy. bit.ly/3vLHFv2

Have to send a special shout out to @rikrani for commissioning this piece and being one of the best editors I’ve ever had the fortune of working with. Thank you so much for all your guidance and support!

I always thought this photo of my husband (tall guy holding the water bottle) and me (in front with sunglasses) at a rave from back in our 20s (RIP) would make an awesome album cover. This Twitter trend is the closest it’ll ever get to fulfilling its potential.

Thank you, Haseeb. For anyone interested, here’s the story I allude to at the end of my essay about helping my mom through psychedelics as well. I wrote this a few years back since it was easier for me to help her with her trauma first, and then myself. vice.com/en/article/ypn

Sorry took a while to read it. But this was a very powerful piece, Hina - about dealing with trauma through psychedelics twitter.com/HinaTweetsNow/…

When my dad was diagnosed with diabetes, he was aghast by the food options given to him by his Canadian dietitian "steamed broccoli" 🙅🏽‍♂️😂. So we had to go on our own unsupported adventure of making Indian food healthy - much like Hina's story here

Wrote an essay for CBC about how my mom’s almost-heart-attack at 54 scared the shit out of me and made me rethink my relationship with desi food. Don’t worry, I still eat all the good stuff, but do it a little differently now. cbc.ca/news/canada/fi
