Nearly 7 years ago, we sued to ensure people like you could access info without govt surveillance. Today, a US appeals court dismissed our appeal. We respectfully disagree with the decision & are considering our options. cc:

Today the 4th Circuit rejected Wikimedia's challenge to Upstream surveillance—the NSA's mass searching of Americans' international emails, messaging, and web browsing. It's a divided, disappointing ruling that embraces a sweeping state secrets claim.

On Sept. 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi was shot and killed in the first deadly hate crime after 9/11. His murder proved to be a warning for a wave of targeted violence that profoundly impacted a generation of Sikhs and other underrepresented communities.

This was apparently 5 days after the Jan. 3 drone strike that took the U.S. to the brink of conflict with Iran.

General Milley had concluded Trump "did not want a war but might order the launch of some sort of military strike that would set off a chain reaction and lead to war." (a) Supremely unhealthy in a democracy, (b) Congress really needs to reclaim its constitutional war powers role

Thanks to the leadership and work of impacted communities, rights advocates, and allies, we've ended some of our government's egregious post-9/11 abuses. But too many rights-violating policies remain--and need to end. (Also, looks like some folks need a reminder of what Bush did)

"In the days after 9/11, in addition to my shock & horror, was this constant refrain 'please don't let your response make things worse for people'." Marking 20 yrs since on with a series on the global impact of that response. 🧵 1/

An extraordinarily thorough & excellent investigation of Aug 29 drone strike in Kabul. Unusually, the military gives info on what they thought happened, knew & didn't know--details they typically refuse to provide.

In the 9/11, Brown, Black, and Muslim communities have been wrongly and unfairly targeted by law enforcement over and over again. We urgently need to end biased law enforcement profiling and fundamentally overhaul the watchlisting system.

Who is the "we" that is referred to here? There were plenty of us who dissented from the post-9/11 policy choices and faced retaliation from our agencies as a result. Too many in the media ignored these dissenting voices then, and now would prefer to pretend we didn't exist.

9/11 forever changed the lives of Arab, Muslim, Middle Eastern, South Asian & Sikh communities in the U.S. A few of us spoke to about the ways in which we were targeted after the attacks. Thinking of everyone affected by that tragic day.
