Does it not make sense to you? Clearly if someone gets more votes than their opponent they should be the winner. Then THE PEOPLE fully control who is in office. Imagine at the in basketball, football, baseball or hockey you had more points than your opponent but you lose

Not at all. The electoral college was literally put in place as an elitist safety measure to make sure wealthy land owners were protected from dumb poor people. It is vestige of our past that was built on oppression and white supremacy. It needs to go!
