Exactly. I don’t see what’s new about this guidance. It sure doesn’t seem like the huge shift people are calling it. Seems like we’re splitting hairs unless control measures are changed.https://twitter.com/SaskiaPopescu/status/1307802198546423809 …

The @CDCgov guidance says “droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols”. Reiterating that this is droplets and aerosols - the guidance remains the same about masks + distancing + limiting indoor activity + hand hygiene + cleaning/disinfection. https://twitter.com/jljcolorado/status/1307787446948511744 …

I think it's a huge deal because I've been fielding calls/questions from people for months because of lack of official acknowledgement meant that people weren't even being told to open windows when they could. Even being forbidden to! It has practical implications. @SaskiaPopescu

I think many scientists & the people who have this discussion on Twitter already had a lot of consensus, so to them, it may seem like a minor deal. Out there.. It's still people bleaching surfaces while not opening windows. Treating six feet as magic even in unventilated indoors.

To this day, official WHO guidelines say no need for masks indoors if separated by one meter... Mere three feet. They don't have one single word on ventilation on their public facing page for what individuals should do. Not one word. (Instead, it's paragraphs on handwashing).

That's why I think it's not a big deal to the experts but a big deal for how community measures. Some schools are still closing a whole day, pushing kids into haphazard childcare, increasing network links and infection risk because.. they deep clean then. But no open windows. /n

100% all of this. Many school districts are still interpreting guidance to mean distancing students allows for masks to safely come off for extended periods. This is in NY, where reopening has otherwise been very measured.https://spectrumlocalnews.com/share/nys/central-ny/ny-state-of-politics/2020/08/31/schools-have-mask-wearing-flexibility--worrying-parents-?cid=app_share …

My child's superintendent is great, but follows official guidance to the letter, especially given pressure from both pro- & anti-mask voices. CDC updates should force state/local DOH updates, with a real impact on situations that individuals cannot control, eg. schools, offices.pic.twitter.com/tpy8PL3C4T

Our office return to work plan allows people to unmask in offices and cubicles and uses half the checkerboard of cubicles to keep that magical six feet distance but still two to an office and still no plan to run air handlers full time or change to MERV-13 or add HEPA.

This has always been the infuriating part of constant messages to mask up. Individuals are increasingly in situations with others and cannot control what those others do. It takes clear guidance and uniform policy to keep everyone as safe as possible. Not as simple as “#MaskUp.”

My work site management is very rule-oriented and only an appeal to official recommendations or standards will persuade them. We would have returned to work in June in Arizona had I not been able to point to a specific state recommendation; the epidemic had not yet subsided.

ALL OF THE ABOVE. I am closely following our local school district's plans and am on a parent advisory committee. I've been pushing and asking about ventilation issues for 3 months. It's like shouting down a well. They won't do anything without health dept guidance.

I have threatened to whistleblow any unsafe policies at work. I don't know if you're in a state where they take these reports, or would feel comfortable reporting to OSHA or even saying that to your employers. I'm not, but I did because it's not a simple flu.

There’s no whistle to blow if there are no standards and at my workplace they really do try to do the right thing; the recommendation from the state was a ‘should’ not a ‘shall’ which was a big part of Arizona’s problem - the laissez-faire pandemic response.
