nationalize indices
Name one good reason inclusion in the S&P 500 should not be strictly rule-based. I can't think of any.

im personally in favour of a vibes-based set of criteria, ie adding a stock into the index because the company has a cool logo or an aesthetically pleasing ticker.

devils advocate. So long as an index's makeup is disclosed... and anyone has the ability to choose to invest in it or not, does it matter what the criteria is? I can think of two SEC Commissioners who would love that argument
