My only issue was why there wasn’t a massive dislocation between exchanges as Arbers couldn’t send Sol for like 24hrs. Were perps able to keep the underlying in line??

1) do we know if there was a dislocation? I don't have the data to say one way or the other. 2) if there was NOT a dislocation my guess would be a few big firms had enough capital at enough exchanges to arb it away without interacting on-chain

The distributed systems angle is that Sol is an "AP" system, meaning it is meant to be "Available" in the face of a "Partition". During a partition, you can't reason about your "Consistency" with the outside world, so you can only do things that you can be sure still make sense..

Did you not realize that transactions settle instantly on exchanges ?
