      Robinhood did not invent payment for order flow. Whether you like them or not, they pioneered zero commissioned trading while others charge commissions and made money from PFOF...this is something many pundits and journalists don't understand.

      Agreed - PFOF has been around since the 1990s, it just wasn’t the main revenue driver until Robinhood changed the game. It exists to promote competition with exchanges and is likely never going away.

      Little secret: PFOF was invented by Bernard L Madoff when he called Leslie Reilly, Chucky Schwab & other discounters to send their order flow to him in exchange for payment Also, Zecco was the first to offer free trades back in '06 - not Robinhood...little insider info for yall.

      More inside info. Bernie didn't invent pfof. It was around back in the 80's on Cincy. Also Freetrade and Brokerage America were offering zero commission trades in 2002.

      As I understand he didnt invent it but was the first one to use it widely & was its biggest proponent But i may be wrong

          One of the first. Bernie and Tony Sanfillippo pioneered it for retail and went out selling It but it was really Kenny and Walter who took it to the next level with the roundtable.

          My old M.D. told me that Jefferies was crossing block orders OTC back in the '60s. I don't know if they were the first ones to invent off-exchange trading for listed securities but that was way before my time.
