Thanks for the intelligent reply. My comment was based on the idea that on-exchange, lit volume is more beneficial for the market than off-exchange, dark volume. That may be an incorrect assumption, would be happy to hear your thoughts!
I get that supply & demand will move prices eventually no matter the venue, and that there is a place for dark trading. But *in general*, more trading where more people can see what's happening is best for the most participants, right?
I’m less familiar with US reporting requirements (within 10 seconds of a trade during market hours?), but generally dark refers to pre-trade transparency, so the market is informed fairly quickly. (I’m ignoring block/LIS trades here.)
