      Turns out, the financial infrastructure built at the height of the British empire in the 19th century still actively shape financial markets today. Someone should write a dissertation on this.

      I'm doing a piece on undersea cables out this Friday... these things are insane technological feats. My mind is blown that we had cables running from the US to Europe as early as the 1800s.

          Then you need to look at hybernia atlantic,(now GTT), shortwave technologies like Raft,, and folks were talking about balloon-driven microwave dirigibles spanning the ocean. That last one, I am not sure was ever built but the others are in production.
