Can you please explain what this means?

"indexed" assets means the amount of $ in a fund that specifically tracks the S&P 500 (ie
$SPY) "benchmarked" means the amount of $ in funds that use the S&P 500 as their performance benchmark (ie many hedge funds that want to beat the market) let me know if that helps.

Based on a reading of your article and A.Z. Robertson's article, I would think investors should prefer a total market index that is about as rules-based as can be (eliminating discretion), such as the Fidelity U.S. Total Investable Market Index.℠

Compared to the S&P 500. Also, I was referring to Jan's recent article.
