A fun thought experiment is imagining how the Covid-19 pandemic would have played out in the US if floor/pit traders on the floor of the CBOE, Merc, and NYSE had not been replaced by algorithms.

I'm trying to find more info, but apparently the NYSE did not close as a result of the 1918 Spanish Flu. Would be super interesting to see how open outcry happened in that time period.
