Bold move, will be interesting to see how CBOE responds. It will be hard to get customers to plug into both CME and CBOE with separate margin to trade both this and normal VIX futures.

It may in terms of lower prices, but CME launching this product is a direct challenge to CBOE which has been considered the king of volatility futures up to this point. If CME takes volume away from the VIX, liquidity may be challenged at some point as well.
