Good point. I like to inspect securities up close and interact directly with human intermediaries on a trading floor before each transaction.

No. Because it's still a business and represents a competitive distinction vs the competition. A slight and eroding distinction, but still one for now. The days when the exchanges were nonprofit utilities are long past.

IIRC the NYSE gets a premium for listing fees-- part of which is paying for the visual/experience of the trading floor/TV set

For CBOE, they lost a good chunk of SPX options volume when the floor closed -- apparently floor is more conducive for the most complex (6+ legs -- lol) trades than electronic
