No. He's saying 'as suspect as Trump's. That's true. In both cases we are talking about a very small part of the generator of the surge, which mostly comes from meeting genuine demand for empty promises of radical change. Russian interference in US elections isn't very effective

Buybacks are usually considered to be equivalent to dividends but are preferred because they are taxed as capital gains.

If your job is to explain politics, and you find yourself unable to fathom why real-change candidates have surged, why extreme capitalism is being questioned, why twentieth-century certitudes need not apply, don’t minimize just because you don’t understand. Start understanding.

credit to Wallace for refusing to entertain "the crime was very bad" as any sort of relevant answer to "was this man wrongly convicted"

Agreed, but votes are bought with rents and an economy that efficiently discovered market prices would rapidly eliminate the scarcity which causes market prices to be high enough for capital to generate the returns that owners and lenders have planned on.

I think that given the natural meaning of 'planning' both are planning. There is a social convention of not regarding the second as planning, but it doesn't really make sense and is motivated by political ideology.

  7. We need to stop pretending that inquiry is a sort of labor. Separately, we need to take care of laborers.

  8. No doubt picking winners is a bug. The economy isn't magic. If meat can solve it so can microchips. Having fiat currency is planning. So is having crypto, but that's apolitical, for better or for worse.

  9. In general I expect that good planning doesn't engage in egotistical delusions but instead makes use of principles of some sort or another which don't pretend that all information can be centralized.

There might be other possible systems not based on planning, but finding ourselves as we do in a planned system that doesn't do us much good. Should we plan to break with the existing plan by not planning? Why would that work out better?

The current economy is planned, and badly so, and we'll worn out, using 19th and early 20th century theories.

High future population implies high future ability to repay debts which implies low interest rates today even compared to the very low rates prevailing today. Taxation economics imply lowering taxes under such circumstances.

Ricardo supercedes himself, if followed, however. Pro-natalist welfare free employment plus open borders (preserving votes and benefits, however, which validate the justified violence of sovereigns, for those subjecting themselves fully to that sovereign force),has consequences

Then workers and employees alike, in so far as they care about the future and in so far as market prices incentivized them by causing beliefs about the future to propagate back into the present, to be consistent, must probably universally vote for the implied pro-natalist policy.

If the economy isn't set up to funnel resources towards the employers who treat their workers at least as well as the employers treat their capital, e.g. as ends onto themselves rather than only as the means to an end, the only thing that can be endorsed as a universal maxim...

This violation of the Iron Law of Wages constitutes an underinvestment by the economy in the reproduction of the laboring population, leading to substitution with the adulterated forms of professional labor that complains about.

Probably require one to make the math work out. Otherwise Value as defined by Ricardo's version of the Labor Theory of Value will diverge from the Exchange Theory of Value.

In a tweet? Really? always endorses Classically Liberal ethics with unique reliability and honestly, and those are correct for a Classically Liberal economy... which Eric and I know to be not at all the economy that we have.

I suspect that you and he disagree about what sort of thing 'the economy' is, and as the person who claims expertise on the subject, it's your job to spell out your position on the matter. But I don't think closed borders are ethically defensible, nor is the economy we have.

Most people never, ever forget the first person to give them a sizable advance on their own self-confidence — there's no greater security in life than being a serial enabler of wonderful young people
