Yeah, I figured that. They hacked your Twitter account (with Twitter employee help?) and hoaxed people about your main database being hacked

No, it is very likely they grabbed the data, given the site outage. Easy pivot to db once you own the webserver. Unlikely to be a hoax.

It was probably a DDOS attack once they had Twitter hacked, designed to facilitate their hoax. Claim was also that servers and backups wiped

No *payments* breach. Attackers likely do have email addresses at minimum. But yes, we'll see.
