I want a GraphQL API in a function-as-a-service type setup with no cold-start lag issues... How can this be accomplished? What do I need to understand, what do I need to read? Is this even possible?

Not FaaS .. but have you come across Hasura or Postgraphile ? Then when an event occurs, we can call a cloud function. Eg:https://github.com/hasura/3factor-example/ …

AWS AppSync is what you want.

You might be right. I was turned off by the large size of the clientside code a while back. But... nothing says you can't just use it as a GraphQL API.

Doing this with Firebase Cloud Functions. I keep my functions warm and run Apollo inside of my functions. It's rare that I see a complete cold start these days on the app and platform I maintain.

Thanks for the info. By "keep my functions warm" is this a setting or are you doing this by pinging them?
