I really want a browser API that is just: "give me the print view of this webpage as a PDF." Basically I want to be able to let users download the report they're already looking at as a PDF without having to run puppeteer on a server somewhere else.

Glad to see it's on that list! I'm a huge fan of what's happening w/ fugu. I've filed a couple of requests there already per request of
@slightlylate. I mentioned the PDF thing as part of my initial one: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1000006 … But, happy to see a PDF-specific ticket open

It's not very expensive for me to run the puppeteer server on Google Cloud, that's not the issue. It's a matter of UX and simplicity. Thanks, though.

Isn't that just the browser print function? In Chrome and Firefox, I'm pretty sure that respect print CSS rules.

Yes, but I guess OP wants to have this functionality as Javascript API. Imagine having a button called download PDF. Right now a call to a backend must be made running puppeteer to generate the PDF. User could do ctrl+p too but they might not now about it...
