The rise in homicides across our state should be alarming to all of us. And while violence has many causes, a big factor is the ready availability of guns. https://www.sfchronicle.com/crime/article/Homicides-suddenly-spiked-last-year-in-California-16304461.php … 1/
And it hasn't worked. A small percentage of criminals are always going to be outlaws. But most want out of the life and our system locks them in. That's what needs fixing. I get the frustration. But I don't get the blind spot to a criminal justice system that doesn't work.

Dollar says I know far more criminals than you will ever know and it’s a fantasy that only a small percentage are incorrigible. Crime for most is a lifestyle. Call it what it is and stop excusing it.

The criminal justice worked as well as it could for the last 25 years driving down crime rates to historic lows deemed impossible to achieve in the 90s. Harsh policing and sentencing were the societal costs of this drop. The q is are we still willing to pay it?

Based on the fierce backlash to the criminal justice reformers that are building up all over the country as violent crime roars back, you might ask yourself if you’ve picked the wrong side of the problem. Boudin and his fellow travelers are creating this backlash.

There's only anecdotal data saying the rise in crime is connected to criminal justice reform. In fact, SF crime is down (according to cops). Correlation isn't causation. My belief is the trauma of the pandemic is more to blame than liberal D.A.s.

What will work? Release everyone.. is that the answer which is what Chesa is doing now.

You and I know that's a simplification of what's happening. Not interested in debating hyperbole.

Crime has plummeted during that time too. I lived in SF in early 90s which is why I'm unmoved by all these folk kvetching about how bad it is now.
