Upbeat but not Hollywood-sappy, "26.2 to Life" vividly conveys the determination of prisoners who are down but not out, as San Quentin’s unorthodox 1000 Mile Club gives them new reason to put one foot in front of the other.

“Because of that struggle, I needed to teach myself what I know,” said Leifer. “I’m here in support of a basic education & I’m hoping that with these regulations there will start to be accountability.” I somehow forgot I did this interview in Albany 😳👀

Albagir was punched in the face, called racial slurs and left in the hands of a border guard who...brutally beat him and seemed to enjoy doing it. Katya wakes up every day to a stocked fridge and fresh bread on the table, thanks to a man she calls a saint.
"[T]his is the community that I am a part of every single day. I know how it works. I know how these systems operate, and how they never favor young people. The system has been going on for hundreds of years, and nothing is getting better."

THREAD: I was elected to deliver safety and justice for all. I've seen every side of the criminal justice system and one thing is clear – what we are doing now is NOT working. I released a plan to fix it, and here are some things I want New Yorkers to know:
