ICYMI (I did): Bloomberg reported y'day that Moderna had to junk 400,000 doses of bulk vaccine because of a production "hiccup." There will be lots of these. Vaccination is starting in record time, but it's going to take longer than we'd like.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-17/moderna-ditches-400-000-vaccine-doses-but-still-set-to-meet-goal#:~:text=Moderna%20Inc.%20had%20to%20discard,a%20U.S.%20official%20said%20Thursday …

This just make me trust their product more. My fear all along has been that quality control and safety might suffer in the rush to get the vaccines out. It’s good to know that Moderna is putting quality control first.

That messaging of time is so important and why I hate when I hear respected people giving timelines that seem unrealistic. Underpromise and overdeliver. Don't blow smoke - we've had our fill of that.

Is the Trump administration deliberately throttling Pfizer to push Moderna ahead (where Trump's "czar" has an interest?). When we need an all of the above solution?

Each batch has to be independently tested to FDA standards. It’s not done by Moderna.

Is this why Pfizer delivery has been scrambled?

Unlikely. Each company has their own manufacturing process. The filtration step for the Moderna product may not even be present in the Pfizer product. Bad batches happen in manufacturing. That is normal. Things happen and product will be discarded.
