If I had only heard the whispers. If only anyone who heard the whispers had demanded justice before I met him. Why didn't anyone tell me or protect me? Why did everyone turn away? These are all painful questions and reckonings that #sociology and the academy must address. 4/n

I am beginning to understand what she means. The more stories I hear abt what he has done to people, the more painful it becomes that I didn't know he had a pattern. I told myself it was my fault for being naive, or that I was just irresistable like he said 3/n

She warned me that I will never be fully free or recovered from what he did to me, from her experience. That the more time goes by, the more layers you see and the more painful it becomes. This abuse affects us FOR LIFE. Forever. 2/n

I want to provide some context for my sudden barrage of #MeTooPhD tweets-I just returned from a conference where I connected with someone who was abused by my abuser decades ago. He used the same tactics on her that he used on me & continued to proposition her FOR DECADES 1/n

Also I hope y'all acknowledge that I'm being hyperbolic. I'm not really going to do this every time. It was just such a refreshing opposite track to that which I usually take

Michael Kimmel’s wiki pg suggests innocence by saying that after 18 months the Title 9 case closed w/o any charges. Let me be clear that he retired vry suddenly before the office could issue charges. The difference matters. #MeTooPhD #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #soctwitter

When faculty who are known to abuse their students attend conferences the careers of their survivors suffer bc they may avoid these spaces to avoid the person. Natn’l orgs that dismiss whispers send a clear message abt who they value #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #MeTooPhD

Sexual predators should not be allowed at academic conferences. If professional associations know that a prof has repeatedly violated students over decades, they are morally and ethically obligated to protect those survivors by taking action. #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter

I don’t mean I didn’t present! I did present but just at a round table. I also got interviewed for the Gender & Society podcast while I was there. But that was really all the non-social stuff on my agenda this time

I just attended a conference without going to a single talk and it was wonderful. I was in the moment with my interactions and kept playing hooky. I’m walking away with so many deep new connections with ppl. I guess this is how I conference now #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter
