Hi again 👋 I hope you are well. I’m fine too. I’m thankful for your interest in my health. But since you mentioned it, I wanted to give you more info. I have muscular dystrophy. It has many effects on my body. Let me tell you what they are:

Replying to @anothercohen
The reality is that this guy (who is independently wealthy) did no actual work, claimed as his excuse that he had a disability that prevented him from typing, yet was simultaneously tweeting up a storm. Can’t say I have a lot of respect for that.

In this way the SEV grading serves concrete needs and correlates with the concept of "severity" and "business impact". It also good for reporting on reliability, and identifying business areas that deserve SRE attention.

After the incident, the question becomes who needs to be involved with the followup. In particular, who should own the PostMortem document: 1) Department Head -> SEV3 2) Director -> SEV2 3) VP -> SEV1 The severity is re-calibrated to match the expectations.

During an incident the important questions are: 1) Do you handle this on the team level or company level? -> SEV3 2) Do you need assistance with managing incident response (Incident Commander) -> SEV2 3) Do you inform the management board -> SEV1

I regard this as the biggest challenge as a parent: How to teach my kids responsible use of internet and phone. Catch: I suck at this myself.

Trends in mental health problems among US women and girls, 2001 to 2018. It's so obvious that something changed, and we all know what it is.

If you’re teaching CS, I promise you ChatGPT can do all your assignments. It’s very good at intro level golden path stuff. It’s going to be a nightmare for anyone who hasn’t already embraced authentic assessment.

Ahh the culmination of about 50 hours of work from both Salomé Santos and myself, the monument to thousands of hours of the work of others. It's MEATBAG RELIABILITY! or, the story of how our culture and practice evolved over time. Check it buff.ly/3DzpFt5 🙏

Also a bad argument in carpentry: "Why did you build a table? People already built a table before!" I sometimes feel as an SWE I should re-build more to practice the craft.

The worst argument in software ever: "Why did you make a new thing instead of using my existing one?" Friend, the Bell Labs folks already wrote everything in the 1970's. All software today is a poorly written imitation of something Rob Pike and Ken Thompson did 50 years ago.

This is why quotation of gender ratio is so dangerous: Your job can be on the chopping block, just because you had the wrong gender. I love the idea of equal opportunity, and treating everyone without prejudices. Gender should not matter. Quotation makes sure it does.

Not sure if it's possible to build a business on-top of ChatGPT at this point (if you are not Microsoft). How far are they with the licensing? Do they even have an official API yet?

In what continues to be interesting: I’m now observing a lot of founders who have not found product-market fit pivot to AI (sometimes away from web3). In almost all cases, they are building on top of ChatGPT / Stable Diffusion. A big winner for this shift is def OpenAI so far. twitter.com/GergelyOrosz/s…

Interesting how, in 2021 I observed lots of startups not finding product market fit pivoting into web3 in hopes of finding it. In 2022, I’m observing more web3 startups pivot away from that space in hopes of finding it.

A colleague of mine got diagnosed with cancer recently. He still shows up to work. Every day. Some meeting he takes during chemo sessions from the hospital. What an absolute boss.
