@HeightismReport
Shining a spotlight on heightism against short men; One of the world's most reinforced and often celebrated forms of hatred.

Heightism Report’s posts

Pinned
People who think heightism is new are misinformed. The word "heightism" was officially introduced in 1971, the prejudiced "Napoleon Complex" theory started in the early 1800s, and The Bible( 1 Sam 16:7) says man notices things like stature, but God doesn't.
22
29
When people say short men should "embrace" or "own" their height, what they're saying is you should tolerate mocking, condescension, stereotypes, discrimination, and even bullying without offering one bit of protest.
2
42
No, "natural selection" will not "kill off short guys." First, short guys live longer. Second, if you kill-off all current short guys, guys who are average height will become the short guys, then, you'll be asking for nature to kill them off. Tall guys absolutely do not want....
6
31
When short men aren't ashamed of being short, people shame them back into "their place." If short men are ashamed, they get shamed for being ashamed . If they challenge this hypocrisy, heightists plead ignorance and start shaming the short man with Just World fallacies.
2
29
Heightism-denying short men should spend time with a 6'2-6'4 guy and observe the difference in how he's treated. The amount of personal space he's granted, the promptness with which the service industry caters to him, and the deference he gets in conversation is blatant.
2
27
One of the worst things society does to short guys is convincing them heightism doesn't exist. If more short guys knew what they were up against at a young age, they'd have more time to come to terms with it and develop strategies to minimize the damage.
3
26
Heightism-denying tall guys who say "I'm tall and unsuccessful, my height never helped me" don't understand how this works. It's not how your life compares to short men at your current height, it's how much more hostile society would be toward you if you were much shorter.
2
21
Supposedly, bullying is an epidemic that needs to be eradicated, but as soon as bullying is height-related, short boys are greeted with empty self-help platitudes. In the event that they apply those exact self-help strategies though, they're accused of overcompensating.

21
I don't say this enough but I truly appreciate the few people who support this page in various ways. Truth be told, I've almost shut this page down a few times due to lack of interest, but I don't want to turn my back on the few of you who actually speak-out against heightism.

Since Prince Harry is tall, I'm sure you'll both have quite the chuckle about how you spread hateful, junk-science stereotypes about short men on . Then, without a hint of self-awareness, you'll immediately pivot to talking about "toxic culture."
1
22
Tall men inventing the concept of Napoleon Complex without evidence, when Napoleon wasn't short, and society still taking their word for it is the most on-brand thing ever. It displays how tall men can say any intellectually-lazy nonsense and people will act like it's scripture.
1
17
If you're going to write a book, article, documentary etc about heightism, please don't include height puns in the title. If you did the right amount of research, you should already know that making the issue seem lighthearted and goofy with puns etc is one of the major problems.
2
16
There are a lot of delusional short men who take insults as compliments. When someone tells a short man he "looks young for his age," they're not saying he takes care of himself, they're saying they don't respect him as an adult. Educate yourselves short men.
12
Heightists flip-flop between assuming short men don't do any self-improvement and criticizing their self-improvement efforts as "overcompensation." A short man's actions or inaction aren't the root of a heightist's hatred, the short man's height is where the hatred lies.
2
14
It takes an absurd amount of denial to say that heightism isn't real and short men formed a conspiracy where they made the concept up to gain undeserved sympathy. All a tall or woman has to say is "you're short" and everyone laughs at the short man, so stop peddling nonsense.
2
13
People who say short men are "thin-skinned" when they react harshly to insults conveniently leave-out the fact that 1) They were the aggressor, evidenced by the fact that they're criticizing the short man's reaction 2) They're probably not the first person to mock him that day
2
17
When we try to discuss the fact that short men commit suicide at 2-3 times the normal rate, it barely generates discussion, but one story about a guy who gets leg lengthening sets the internet on fire for an entire week with nonsense about how heightism is fake.
15
"He's short, but his personality is tall" is supposedly a compliment, but it states a short man can't act in a desirable manner unless he's assigned honorary tallness. It compliments tall men more than short ones. You can't praise short men without paying the tall man's ego tax.
1
13
Heightism-denying short men who self-deprecate have let heightists beat them into submission. Not only are they afraid to speak the truth, but they also surrender their dignity to act as jesters for those who hate them.
1
13
Hey . I saw your new commercial that mocks short men. You probably don't care that short men have 2-3 times the normal suicide rate and are paid and promoted less at corporations like yours. You must be proud of yourselves for targeting a marginalized group society despises.
3
14
If you see someone being praised for being "calm, cool, collected," "a strong, silent type" or "laid back," you know they're tall. If short men act that way they're said to "lack confidence," or they're "sneaky," "mischievous," and even "creepy."
2
14
People never shut-up about short men not being able to reach top shelves, but tall men feel discomfort bending down to get things on bottom shelves and no one laughs. This proves that these jokes aren't laughing about physical logistics, they're making one-way judgments.
1
16
Since I've been in the anti-heightism realm, I've offered an open invitation to work with feminists who want to address the tall man's role in establishing male privilege, toxic masculinity, etc. Not one has taken me up on that offer, and I've been doing this over ten years
2
15
The "You can't compare women not dating short men to fatphobia" heightism-denial talking-point relies on two massive lies. 1) It pretends being a short man is only detrimental in dating 2) It pretends that rejection of short men as dating partners is always expressed politely.
2
13
Tall Man Syndrome makes talls think they own women instead of merely dating them, which is why he went into a tall rage when someone merely reacted to an online pic. This is what happens when you fill a subset of the population with constant praise for mere participation in life.
Quote

Heightism is not just about dating. Dating is not the only thing heightism is about. Dating is not the core issue of heightism, heightism's core issue is not dating. Dating is not the only aspect of heightism that affects short men, the effects of heightism don't end with dating.

This account doesn't affiliate nor disaffiliate with other philosophies. I want heightism to be discussed from all ends of the sociological spectrum. However, once you demand that I adopt certain ideologies that aren't 100% about heightism, I'm not talking to you anymore.

This works even better if you go places where people are unfamiliar with both of you. Acquaintances can "learn" to respect short men they know if he "earns it," so the disparity will show even more around strangers where the short man hasn't "tricked" people into respecting him.
1
12
Even short men don't understand how prevalent the Napoleon Complex myth is. When people say you're "insecure," "lack confidence," or accusing you of being angry for reacting normally to negative treatment or for defending yourself, they're accusing you of having a complex.
1
12
No one who has heard of Napoleon Complex/Short Man Syndrome has the right to request proof that heightism exists. If they don't classify stereotypes that fuel mass hatred of short men as heightist, they know heightism exists because they obviously have heightist mentality.
2
12
Many of the heightists on here have short parents, grandparents, neighbors, colleagues, uncles, etc. Some of them even have(or will have) short nephews and even short children of their own. I feel sorry for the innocent ones who will be victims of unwarranted hatred one day.
13
There are many short dads who busted their backs, sacrificed their bodies, and gave it all they had working thankless blue collar jobs etc to give their daughters a better life, and many of those daughters come-on this app saying absolutely vile things about short men.
1
13
The absolutely abysmal "study" we called-out a few weeks ago has succeeded in multiplying hatred. Thousands of likes, RTs etc for a baseless evo-psych junk science shitshow. Short men will suffer greatly because of this irresponsible hate piece

Funny how his height was "important" enough to mention first, but you didn't mention his skin color. How convenient. Either physical characteristics are the catalyst for his actions or they aren't.

This account is inactive until further notice. It may be operational again if heightism dialogue is ever open to discussing the actual issues short men are facing. Thanks to the few of you who approached the issue seriously.
If feminists wanted to make an intellectually honest attempt to confront "male privilege," they'd be calling tall guys out considering they are one of the most privileged groups of men in existence. However, (Cont'd)

Tall guys love to deny career-related heightism with "I'm tall and still unsuccessful and broke" deflections, but as soon as you say "If you were several inches shorter, you don't think you would be even worse off" they get that "I need to speak to an attorney" look on their face
10
The political Left and Right hate each other. Now, think about the fact that both the Left and the Right aren't bothered by the fact that they share the same views about short men. So, yes, these mortal political enemies hate short men more than they hate one another.
1
11
New York City has made it illegal to discriminate against height for employment, housing, and public accommodations. This could be a game-changer for short men who have had their lives greatly impacted by heightism. There's no need to suffer in silence.
3
13
Heightist Logic: "I'll ALLOW you to discuss heightism, but you have to do it my way and you have to prance for me by distancing yourself from other short men who I've cherry-picked as bad examples for you not to follow."
1
10
People will deny that tall men receive special perks, while at the same time only listening to tall men's opinions about whether or not short men are discriminated against.
10
He's right. Heightist insults are rarely creative. The same tired jokes constantly get praised because 1) Short men are an easy target that society enjoys degrading 2) The laughter reflects the joy society experiences when short men get put "in their place."

Completely true, but it's often even worse. Often, when a tall man's a "prick," his prickishness is viewed as "confidence" or he's a "real man who takes what he wants because he's secure in his skin." The Halo Effect is endless.
Quote
True. Notice this: if a tall man behaves like a prick, he’s a “prick”. If a short man behaves like a prick, he’s a “short prick”. If a tall man has an assertive personality, he’s a “leader”. If it is a short man, he’s got “Napoleon complex”. twitter.com/GrantNickels2/…

've said this a million times and will gladly say it a million more, but no form of discrimination gets addressed until you hold the perpetrators accountable. The victims are powerless to end the mistreatment alone because all of their actions are stereotyped as negative.
1
10
If someone acts in an irrational manner, and your first thought is to assign a negative stereotype to their physical appearance, you can't then backtrack and say you don't have a distaste for people with that physical trait. It doesn't work that way
9
Replying to
If shortness isn't viewed negatively, why would people laugh so hard at a mere mention of a man being short? They're laughing because people get extremely satisfied when they see a short man get "put back in his place." You know it, I know it, and you're not fooling anyone
8
It's beyond delusional to think a society that celebrates discrimination against short men while being against body-shaming for other groups is going to be objective enough to only use heightism against short men who are behaving in an undesirable fashion.
Quote
This mentality also shows ignorance about how heightism puts short men in a no-win-situation where there is always a discriminatory spin available to label any-and-all short men as having bad personalities when it is convenient for a heightist to do so. twitter.com/HeightismRepor…
7
Anyone who thinks that people are only heightist against short men who have "bad personalities" has way too much faith in the intellect and motives of modern society. At-best, that mentality is ridiculously naive.
1
9
How stupid can you be to state that women have height preferences, and in the same sentence, state that men don't get rejected because of their height?
Quote
Short men who complain about women having height preferences gotta face the fact THEY just dont get play and it dont got nothing to do with their height
10
The general public fakes ignorance on the fact that "jokes" often spread discriminatory ideas. If you're going to argue in-favor of body-shaming short men, it's more respectable to claim you don't care that it spreads discriminatory ideas instead of lying about it. Own it.

Let me add a disclaimer that a short man who has earned respect can lose it immediately if he somehow surpasses the social status of anyone else in the group. He's respected on a contingency basis until he steps "out of line" or acts as though he doesn't "know his role."

Oh look. Another celeb openly height-shaming men. I'm also not sure someone wearing 11 lbs of make-up and dying their hair three different colors for their profile pic is the one to criticize others for hiding their true appearance.
10
Here's a blatant flaw in #Feminist ideology regarding heightism; They won't make heightism against short women a focal point because if they do, short men would eventually benefit. They'd rather hurt short men than help short women, and short women still drink their Kool-Aid.
1
8
One of the most flagrant delusions held by heightism deniers is that people who mock short men always do so in a good-natured manner, but those who speak against, conduct studies about, and resist heightism made the entire concept up to deprive the mockers of "good clean fun."

Gordon is about 6'3. Not one accusation of him having "tall man syndrome." If he were short and even got in two non-violent arguments in two weeks, all short men would pay the price.
Quote
Ben Gordon was arrested again.. after he allegedly beat up two McDonald's security guards in Chicago. 2 weeks ago he was arrested for punching his son in an NY airport.

When you start arguing bioscience(or even worse, evo-psych) to explain heightism, you're showing that you don't understand the issue. Your argument basically boils down to "taller men are naturally superior," thus, you're arguing in-favor of heightism, not against it.
No direct evidence has ever been found that proves any dictator became evil because of their height, yet, society is so frothing-at-the-mouth ready to degrade short men that no one ever even thinks to ask for credible evidence.

A similar label for tall men doesn't exist, therefore, either tall men have never acted irrationally in the world's existence, or, short men have their actions policed due to a societal distaste for short men. I think everyone knows which one of those is true.
1
9
If short jokes were "just jokes," short men could joke back without being labeled with a character flaw(Napoleon Complex.) When only one party is allowed to joke, and like retaliation brings harsh judgment, you're not dealing with jokes, you're dealing with an imbalance of power
1
9
People who say they aren't heightist and only hit the deserving short men with the Napoleon label are lying because they've never labeled tall men with a derogatory label for the same type of behavior
7
Replying to
Yes. You should ways strive for self-improvement regardless. The fact that you don't think short men know such obvious things is discriminatory to begin with. However, blaming short men for the actions of heightists based on preconceptions is idiotic and counterproductive.
1
10
This is exactly it. They never have to start at zero(or at a deficit like short men.) They are given deference before they even open their mouths, and they see this insane amount of privilege as normal. This is why their advice is so infested with Just-World Fallacies.
Quote
tall man syndrome is men who are so accustomed to being respected and given success, they don't acknowledge this success is a symptom privilege and think it's all deserved (Andrew Tate, fresh and fit, Jordan Peterson)
9
When short kids are bullied EXPLICITLY due to their height, it's not heightism, it's "general bullying," but when a short man commits a heinous crime, it's because all short men have a syndrome. Heightism isn't a factor when it's explicit, but shortness is blamed without evidence
7
Heightists are transparent. They mask their hatred with "jokes." Think about it. Probably 70% of their jokes for several decades rely on short men not being able to reach things. Nothing is funny for that long; They laugh because they like short men being put in their place.
1
9
No matter how awful society treats short men, the short men who speak about it will be treated far more harshly for speaking than the perpetrators will be treated for commiting the actions to begin with.
9
There needs to be far less conversation about what short men should do to mitigate the effects of heightism and much more conversation about holding society accountable for heightism. The perpetrators are the problem, not the victims.
1
9
When people say a short man "can't take a joke," they're just throwing a tantrum because they can't handle a short man defending himself. Plus, he's probably heard that same joke 100 times already. Bigots are never as clever as they think they are.
6
Replying to
And they believed short men should only be allowed to address heightism by using an anti-male narrative. AKA "The only reason women mistreat short men is the expectations of patriarchy, which are men's fault, therefore, heightism against short men is the fault of short men."
1
8
R/short is a complete disaster. It always has more people whining about the vent posts than actual vent posts. It'd be nice if the delusional regulars there would eventually realize that short people venting about heightism isn't worse than heightism itself.
1
7
Steve gets it. Society knows good and well that it pushes tall equals superior and short equal inferior, yet, chooses to ignore this fact, while hypocritically only addressing forms of discrimination that are deemed "worthy" by academia
Quote
Right, "short-shaming" is deplorable, but virtually nobody in academia deplores it. Why is "heightism" barely ever denounced in 2019? Because, over height, more often women discriminate against men than men discriminate against women. takimag.com/article/short-
8
Replying to
Exactly. If we don't expose it, no one will. The only way it will ever receive enough attention is by gathering allies one at a time even though barely anyone is paying attention. More people know about heightism than did several years ago though, so we're doing something right.
8
Replying to
And height puns are play-out anyway. They've been a go-to source of short shaming forever, have been overused for decades, and people still pretend they're funny just because people applaud short shaming in all its forms no matter how intellectually-lazy it is.
7
He's completely right. R/short is allowed to exist because they protect the status-quo. Kind of like how Kevin Hart is given a career because he volunteers as a whipping boy for society to mock short men.
Quote
The only reason r/short has never been banned and will never be banned, is because it denies heightism. Serving it's debt to society by enabling more heightism. twitter.com/HeightismRepor…
6
People who shut down heightism dialogue with "No one cares about your height" sure do care if short men utter one peep of protest about heightism. It's obvious they've been exposed and their tantrums are damage control keeping us from exposing even more inconvenient truth.
1
7
Heightist beliefs are contradictory. They believe ALL short men have an inferiority complex and every action(or inaction) of short men is a negative reflection of shortness. OTOH, there has never been a tall man(not even one) who has a height-related superiority complex. C'mon.
Replying to
And even if hardcore heightism disappeared and it was just about dating preference, what is seriously wrong with you that you get foaming-at-the-mouth angry at the concept of being asked to empathize with another human being?

7
I don't know which is worse. 1) The open heightism that goes on at my job when we have strict non discrimination policies. 2) The people who are responsible see themselves as polite people. 3) There's no way to get the issue resolved without sacrificing my career.

Textbook tall man syndrome. Yesterday, #HarveyWeinstein and #RKelly were sentenced because their tallness made them think they can forcibly acquire sex, and this tall teen shows how tall men react when you take their toys. Meanwhile, feminists are silent on abusive tall men.

The anti-male brigade salivates over examples of men being fragile, but completely ignores the goldmine that is tall men having to constantly flaunt their height in addition to degrading short men because they(tall men) need constant ego-stroking.

If this isn't Tall Man Syndrome personified, I don't know what is. Tall gets his feelings hurt because of what someone else says, and immediately flaunts his own height by insulting someone else's. This guy constantly babbles about loving Jesus too. Tallness>Christ to him.
